Mars Callahan (born Gregory Mars Martin on April 14, 1971, in Studio City, Los Angeles, California, USA) is an American actor, film director, producer, and writer.
Callahan began his career early. At the age of eleven, he toured across thirty-seven states with a children’s musical group. By fifteen, he landed his first acting role in the popular television series The Wonder Years. He continued to hone his acting skills in various television projects before transitioning to the big screen.
Inspired by the directors he worked with, Callahan decided to explore filmmaking from behind the camera. In 1998, he directed his first short film, The Red Bag. He is perhaps best known for the 2002 film Poolhall Junkies, where he served as director, actor (playing the lead role of Johnny), and screenwriter.
Callahan has a diverse filmography as an actor, including roles in Kalifornia (1993), Clifford (1994), That Thing You Do! (1996), and Highway to Hell (1991). He also appeared in television series such as ER and The Wonder Years.
In addition to Poolhall Junkies, Callahan has directed and written other films, including What Love Is (2007) and Spring Break ’83 (2009). He is also credited as a writer on Zigs (2001), which he also directed under his birth name, Gregory ‘Mars’ Martin.
Beyond his film career, Callahan also participated in the 2011 World Series of Poker main event, where he finished in 94th place and earned $64,531.
