What’s hotter than a summer in Mississippi? The newest film school in Tupelo, MS, that’s what! The film Connection program has partnered with several production companies in the area to provide you with the right guidance to get your film career started. We focus on mentorships for our students to give them real-world experience and working relationships that other film school students can only dream about.
The Columbus-Tupelo Film Connection offers two tracks for you. The first is a 6-month program for anyone who wants to work behind the scenes. Our signature feature, the professional mentorship, will pair you up with working filmmaking professionals in the area.
The second track is for those of you who want to be the kind of visionary director that steers a project from its inception. You will get a chance to write, direct, and edit your project with your local mentors. During the final week of the course, you will be flown out to L.A. and meet with your dream mentors to fine-tune your project pitch. Armed with your best pitch, you will be put in a room with an industry executive who can talk you through the marketability of your idea. No other program offers this unique experience and connections to industry professionals.
Located in northeastern Mississippi, the neighboring cities of Columbus, Tupelo, and West Point anchor a greater metropolitan area spanning several counties with a combined population of over 200,000 people. Tupelo in particular is widely remembered as the birthplace of rock legend Elvis Presley. This area has a warm climate and miles of countryside, and is within driving distance of major cities such as Mobile, Nashville, and Memphis, making it ideal for a diversity of filming locations. Although film schools are scarce here (except for ours, of course), there are several production companies that call this area home. If you are considering a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, the Columbus-Tupelo-West Point area provides a surprising alternative to going to film school elsewhere.
Major movies, commercials, TV shows, and documentaries are regularly filmed throughout Mississippi, including in the Columbus-Tupelo-West Point area. Some of the movies that have been shot in this area and surrounding locales include Heart of Dixie, This Is Elvis, The Sore Losers, A Time to Kill, My Dog Skip, and Walk the Line, just to name a few.
With our many professional connections and relationships forged over the years, FILM CONNECTION is in a unique position to help launch your career in film or television. Our revolutionary mentor-extern approach pairs you with a working industry professional who gives you hands-on experience while helping you make vital industry connections. Many FILM CONNECTION graduates go on to have a career in film and TV—oftentimes being hired before they finish our program.
