Biloxi and Gulfport are getting more and more film work. Should you be a part of this growing industry? We’re Biloxi-Gulfport Film Connection and we want to help you break into show business. Production companies are lining up to work with our students and you can involve yourself in two ways.
The first is our 6-month behind the scenes program. We will pair you up with local mentors who work in the Biloxi-Gulfport area in your specialized area of production. You will meet regularly with your mentors at their production facilities or studios and gain the kind of real-world experience that only comes to professionals who have knocking on industry doors for years.
The second, more comprehensive, the path is our 8-month director track. You will still be paired with local mentors as you develop, write, direct, and edit your project. Additionally, you will also have a dream mentor, someone who is working in Los Angeles and can help you develop a pitch for your project. During your final week, we will fly you out to Los Angeles to meet with your dream mentor and put the finishing touches on your pitch for an actual pitch meeting with an industry executive who will give you immediate feedback on the marketability of your project. These types of meetings are the stuff of dreams for many people who are busting their humps in Hollywood. But you get it all as a part of your Film Connection education.
Located along Mississippi’s gulf coast, the neighboring cities of Biloxi and Gulfport are part of a metropolitan area with a combined population of around 240,000 people. This is a popular tourist area, with the gaming industry comprising a significant portion of the area economy. The warm climate of this area, the scenic coast, the presence of several production companies and the proximity to other major cities such as Baton Rouge and New Orleans combine to make this area a good central point for location filmmaking. If you are looking at a film career as a film producer, film director or film editor, the Biloxi-Gulfport area makes a surprisingly pleasant alternative to relocating to New York or Los Angeles.
Movies, documentaries, commercials and TV shows are filmed throughout Mississippi on a regular basis, including the Biloxi-Gulfport area. Some of the movies that have done location filming here and in surrounding areas include Mississippi Masala, Walk the Line, The Ladykillers, Ghosts of Mississippi and the documentary Lord, Save Us From Your Followers, to name a few. This area has also seen its share of television production, as well, including the filming of episodes of WWF Raw, The Simple Life and True Blood.
The secret to FILM CONNECTION’s success is our mentor-extern approach. During our 6-month course, you’ll be paired with a working film or television professional who serves as your personal instructor. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on real film and video shoots, and you’ll make vital industry contacts along the way.
