The Film Connection runs on an externship basis. You come in, tell us what you want to do as a career, and then we pair you with individuals already doing it. Sounds crazy, right? Sounds amazing, right? Well, it is.
The traditional film school is an expensive and antiquated dinosaur. In art and in life you have to streamline the unnecessary elements. Why would you pay $100,000 to a school that can’t guarantee you a job? It’s ludicrous.
In the film industry, it’s all about who you know. It’s all about what connections you have. How does going to film school get you connections? It doesn’t. Unless the film school was created to get you connections.
Film Connection is the only real way to break into the movie industry.
Located about an hour apart from one another along the Blue Ridge Mountain range in central Virginia, the cities of Roanoke and Lynchburg host a combined population of over 160,000 people, and both serve as commercial/business hubs for the area. Numerous entertainers and celebrities have ties to this area, including actors John Payne, Leslie Bibb, Skeet Ulrich, and Connie Britton. The Roanoke-Lynchburg area is convenient to plenty of beautiful natural scenery as well as within driving distance to larger cities like Richmond and Norfolk, making it a good hub for location filming.
Numerous movies, TV shows, documentaries, and specials have been filmed throughout Virginia, including in the Roanoke-Lynchburg area. Examples of films that have done location shooting in this area include What About Bob? Crazy People, Remember the Titans, Pilgrim's Progress and In a Shallow Grave, to name a few. Whether your interest in a film career is in producing, directing, camera work, or post-production, there is plenty of opportunities to be found in this area.
