Learn film production in Alaska directly from an industry pro, in the real world, not a classroom. One-on-one mentorship. Build Industry Connections and Gain Real Experience.
The Film Connection in Alaska gives you the chance to break into the film industry like no other film school in the state. How do we do it? By putting you into a real film studio or production facility for one-on-one training from a working film professional. This gives you the chance to learn directly from someone who has both years of experience and connections to the film business, allowing you train more effectively while you make your own industry connections. Our training program allows you to focus on your particular interests, whether it’s screenwriting, cinematography, editing or directing. And depending on which program you choose, we can prepare you for a successful film career right here in Alaska, or even provide you a one-of-a-kind opportunity to pitch your own film directly to Hollywood!
For being the northernmost state in the U.S., Alaska certainly offers more than its fair share of filmmaking opportunities, owing in part to Alaska’s natural beauty and in part to generous incentives offered by the state.
Television production is also common here in Alaska, with popular series like The Amazing Race and Ice Road Truckers regularly shooting on location. You’ll find more opportunities to connect to the film industry in Alaska than you think, and the Film Connection can help you make the most of those opportunities.
We take a much different approach to teaching than other film schools do. With our program, you will not spend a single day in a college or trade school classroom. Instead, you’ll be placed as a working extern under an experienced film professional who will serve as your personal teacher and mentor. You’ll have the opportunity to learn one-on-one and on-the-job, combining our curriculum with actual experience on real productions. In other words, you’re not learning in a classroom; you’re learning on the set, from your first day until your last. Your mentor will not only teach you the ropes in your area of interest, but if your plan is to break in as a filmmaker, he/she will guide you through the steps of developing your own film idea. And when you’re ready, we’ll arrange for you to pitch that film to real Hollywood executives!
The Film Connection also prides itself on the fact that for these remarkable opportunities, we manage to keep our tuition rates about 75 percent LOWER than our competition. That’s right; you learn from a real film professional, get the chance to pitch your film to Hollywood, and get connected to a film industry career—and you won’t have to go into debt to do it!
The Alaska Film Connection can teach you all aspects of film production, including writing the script, casting your film, budgeting, production design, camera operation, editing and more—all taught on-the-job, one-on-one by your personal mentor. Are you ready to get started? Your future awaits.
Some of our graduates have gone on to become film directors, script writers, and production company owners. Others are creating and producing their own films across genres like documentary, drama, comedy, action, and animation
